The emerging manual mirrorless lens brand Thypoch entered the expressive world of photography by releasing at Photopia Hamburg 2023. Unlike other existing lens brands, it passionately embraces “Thy-Photography,” hoping users can explore as many self-expression styles as possible through images, revealing genuine relationships with oneself, others, and the world.

To learn more about Thypoch, let's focus on its first series release, which includes two lenses – Simera 35mm and 28mm.

Origin of the Brand/Series

Composed of "Thy" and "epoch," Thypoch values the unique golden era every individual creates for themselves. Each shutter sound reflects and constitutes irreplaceable memory fragments in their lives. Firstly, the inaugural series Simera (meaning "today" in Greek) carries the pursuit of deeply recording fleeting moments of the present. Two full-frame prime lenses—Simera 35mm and 28mm, showcase a modern, high-resolution, high-contrast, and low-dispersion imaging style, inspiring users to capture the exclusivity of today.

Key Features

  • F1.4 large aperture, circular dreamy bokeh

  • Click and toggle aperture modes

  • Closest focusing distance 0.45 meters/0.4 meters

  • Finder focus invalid alarm appears on the focus ring at 0.7 meters

  • Automatic depth-of-field indicator

  • Retro style coordinated with Leica aesthetics

Lens Characteristics

Featuring an F1.4 large aperture and 14 aperture blades, the Simera series creates stunning bokeh effects, effortlessly separating subjects from their backgrounds to present a captivating sense of space. Seamless transitions between shutter sound and silent shutter modes provide smooth aperture adjustments during video capture.

The Simera 35mm and 28mm have closest focusing distances of 0.45 meters and 0.4 meters, respectively, allowing users to explore details of the subject with extraordinary clarity. When the rangefinder focus fails, slight resistance at 0.7 meters on the focus ring reminds users to use the electronic viewfinder (EVF) for optimal focus accuracy.

The innovative design of the automatic depth-of-field indicator enables photographers to easily visualize the focus range in their compositions, assisting them in making artistic decisions while using hyperfocal distance for street and landscape photography.

Price and Availability

The Simera lenses come with an aluminum alloy body, available in silver and black, paired with a hood suitable for Leica M Mount and A49 filters. The retail price, including packaging, is 699 USD.
