About photography composition

Composition involves how to arrange the various elements in an image and how to use different subjects and perspectives to convey the photographer's intention and emotion. In this article, we will combine 3 composition principles and help photographers understand the practical application of different composition theories through excellent works shot on Thypoch lenses.

1. Principle of Simplicity

Before shooting, the photographer should observe and select the elements that can convey the subject most clearly, such as key points, lines, shapes, etc. When shooting, focus on the theme or key points, and use methods such as virtual and real contrast, and light and dark contrast to highlight the key points, while minimizing the appearance of redundant elements.

2. Principle of Balance

An excellent photo should give people a sense of balance and stability, rather than making people feel uneasy. To achieve a balanced composition, photographers can distribute the picture elements on the left and right sides, adopt symmetrical compositions, or divide the picture into three equal parts.

3. Principle of Contrast

Make the picture more vivid and prominent by contrasting and emphasizing the elements. Contrast composition can be achieved through light and dark contrast, color contrast, size contrast, etc. For example, use black-and-white photography and reflectors to enhance the contrast between light and dark; use high-saturation colors and filters to enhance color contrast; and contrast the size of characters and the background.

Of course, innovative composition methods spring out as more and more photographers think out of the box and explore unique ways to set them apart.
